…I have to admit, these ads are pretty good.
Of course, I think likening someone who likes purebred dogs to Klan members is just the sort of insanity that causes people to rail against PeTA (including yours truly). But the underlying message is difficult to argue.
And that’s not to say that I would never get a purebred dog, under certain circumstances. Though, when I wanted a specific kind of dog, I had a search on PetFinder going for nearly two months, and ended up getting Simba from a pound 50 miles away.
No, he isn’t purebred. He’s a mutt. He doesn’t know it, so he acts like a giant Shiba Inu, and I don’t look like a guy with a completely foo-foo dog like a normal-sized Shiba Inu. We both win.
Anyway, since I’m raising PeTA awareness to my three readers, I thought I’d counter it with two worthwhile organizations that could make better use of your money.
First is Pedigree’s Adoption Drive Foundation and their Million Dog Mosaic (upload a picture of a dog, and they’ll donate $1). And if you’re local, the Michigan Humane Society is holding a telethon tomorrow — though they’ll always take donations.
So there you go. My PSA for the year.
